GVWR
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, the maximum total weight an RV or tow vehicle can safely carry, including cargo.
GVWR, or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, is the maximum total weight a vehicle or trailer is rated to carry, including its own empty weight plus passengers, cargo, fluids, and any tongue or hitch weight it bears. It is set by the manufacturer and printed on a certification label, usually near the driver's door or on the trailer frame.
Exceeding GVWR affects braking distance, tire load, suspension wear, and handling, and it is a factor insurers and law enforcement can check after an accident, regardless of whether the RV feels fine to drive when overloaded. GVWR is separate from GCWR, which covers the combined weight of a tow vehicle and trailer together.
A frequent mistake is estimating cargo weight instead of actually weighing a loaded rig at a certified scale, since water tanks, gear, and factory options add up faster than expected. Weighing fully loaded and comparing against both GVWR and individual axle ratings is the only reliable way to confirm you are within limits.
