Battery monitor
A shunt-based meter showing real state of charge and current flow, far more accurate than reading voltage alone.
A battery monitor uses a shunt, a precision resistor wired in the main battery cable, to measure the actual current flowing in and out of the battery. By tracking that current continuously, it calculates a running state of charge percentage that is far more useful than glancing at a voltage number on the dash or a cheap panel meter.
Voltage alone is a poor indicator of charge level because it shifts with temperature, load, and which battery chemistry is installed, and it can look deceptively healthy even when the battery is significantly depleted. A shunt-based monitor instead answers the question owners actually care about, how many usable amp-hours are left right now.
A common setup mistake is installing the shunt on the wrong side of a parallel battery bank or forgetting to include a load that bypasses it, which throws off every reading afterward. Following the wiring diagram exactly, and confirming the monitor and battery chemistry settings match, is worth double-checking during installation.
